The Club at Quail Ridge

Boynton Beach, Florida, USA

The renovation of the North Course at The Club at Quail Ridge is a transformative project aimed at enhancing both the playability and aesthetic appeal of the course. The renovation project, completed in 2024, focused on modernizing the layout, improving course conditions, and ensuring the course is suitable for golfers of all skill levels.

Fry/Straka’s design team reimagined the course with a focus on creating a more strategic, playable layout while greatly enhancing the visual appeal. One of the key elements of the renovation was to maximize vertical relief, a rarity in the region, which is further enhanced by the dramatic bunkering. The greens were rebuilt with new contours, improving their receptiveness to approach shots and providing more strategic pin placements, many with "kickplates" and ground contours to guide shots towards tucked pin locations. The renovation also included a new short-game area, driving range, and practice putting green, and some rerouting to provide shorter transitions between several holes.

Sustainability was also a priority in the renovation, with the team using native plant species to reduce water and long-term maintenance costs while introducing littoral shelves to enhance biodiversity throughout the water features, which further add to the aesthetically pleasing environment. In the end, over 660 trees were transplanted, over 3,200 new trees and 105,000 native Florida plants were planted as a part of the significant landscape enhancement.

The result of this renovation is a dramatically transformed North Course with a contrasting style to the South Course, offering a challenging but fair test for golfers while providing an enjoyable and visually striking experience.
